[ Creatures were being held hostage? Left in cramped living conditions? By the same group in another ad asking for the death of another creature?

This horror can't be allowed to continue.

Which is why Red had no hesitations upon signing up, practically glowing at the time (maybe a little literally) and carrying that energy throughout the day, until the time for meeting at the destination handed over came, and Operation: Free The Poor Cute Cuddly Creatures was to be initiated.

And when they said they wanted lookout, that's exactly how they planned to use their help. Which is why Kor and Red now stand at complete opposites of the road leading to the Beastmaster Hunting Guild's building, usually with little activity around this time. The pair were given each others names, and told to make any diversions if they saw trouble. Well, first trouble had to come around. For now, everything was relatively quiet. ]

Hey... Kor, is it? Am I doing this right?

[ Except for that mind message from your company at the other end of the road, Red. ]

[Something about the job made Kor's blood boil, or at least the way it was describe. He'd helped out the guild a few times taking down large threats, and that was fine. A lava basilisk, a giant luchador snake... those were all dangerous to the safety of others! It was fine. But the idea that they're holding poor defenseless creatures that have done nothing wrong hostage, in terrible conditions, it just... it just didn't sit right with him. It made him feel like he had been used.

When the opportunity presented itself to do something to try and make things right, well... he was all over it. He was informed there was another person who was also taking on the job, and that was fine. The more the merrier, after all!]

Yep, that's me! Nice to meetcha, Red, right?

Oh good, it worked! Yeah, that's it! Nice to meet you too. [ This is a little exciting...! But he's keeping focused on the job, promise! ] I just wanted to make sure we could do this - you know, in case we needed to. I haven't done it much. Better make sure I don't think about other stuff too now...

I wanted to ask you a question too. Do you know anything about this Beasthunting Guild?

Well... I know a few things. [They are kind of a mystery, though...] Every month they've shown up on the task board, offering a couple jobs to tackle really dangerous monsters for high rewards. I've helped take a few of them down myself!

Huh, take down...? [ He's thinking on this, evidently, a small uncertain vibe coming from Red's end. ] What, like in that tower? Did they get out into the city?

That tower's brand new, so... No. They were out in the wild.

So what was going on? I don't have much of an idea of the problems that go on around here. Well, other than the land below being covered in negative emotions or something...

They just made it sound like the giant monsters were dangerous, and left notices on the task board that they'd give big rewards to anyone who could defeat them.

[ There's a flicker there in their line, a spark, a mixture of hot and warm and withdrawing yet sharply defensive. Red tries to keep it down, if only not to jump outright there with accusations. It's hard to conceal completely though, at least not in the tone of his firmed voice. ]

And what were they doing when you found them? Did you check out what was going on?

[ And, because it's hard to keep silent in your own head- ]

You know the creatures here get angry if you approach them looking for a fight, right.

When I got there, they were already looking pretty furious. I always went with a group, and the monsters were always immediately trying to kill us. I guess thinking about it... They were probably defending their territory...

Why are they monsters for? [ Again, it's his mind speaking to himself first, perhaps noticeable by the volume that it comes through, quiet. But Red pauses, tries to let himself work out his words on more than anger. He's meant to be keeping watch too. ]

Out in the wild... creatures don't just attack for any reason. And if the one's who reported it was these guild people, and they really cage up creatures like-- like objects, then who's to know what really set them off in the first place?

People who would treat creatures like that... who knows what else they've done?

["Creatures don't just attack for any reason." That's a line that catches Kor's attention, mostly because of how untrue he knows that is. So that prompts him to shake his head, before responding to Red.]

...In my world, and I'm sure in many others, monsters will attack for seemingly no reason. Outside the towns... it's unsafe for people. Merchants have to hire mercenaries and caravans to help them transport their goods from one town to the next. Civilians rarely go traveling away from their hometowns because they don't know if they'll make it in one piece.

...It's a matter of survival. To them, we're just a walking meal.

[ It does make him pause, quiet, to hear briefly about Kor's world. It's not... so entirely odd when he listens to it. People in his own world need protection if they go out due to wild pokémon, a contradiction of his own words for a second perhaps, but-

Hunger isn't entirely a no reason scenario, and having protection on the road -- isn't that normal? ]

Isn't that your world? Who's to say that's exactly how it goes here too? When I got here I was told there were creatures that'd try to kill me, but that wasn't the case at all! Sure, in my world too you'll get attacked if you go out in the wild unprepared, but -- but that doesn't deserve they mean death!

Anyway, can you really trust a group who call themselves the beast hunting guild? You can't just treat every scenario the same, no one should do that. Who knows what made them angry? What if they're not usually like that?

I don't know if that's the case here or not. [This next part is said--err, thought--more quietly.] But that's the train of thought many people have here... [They all come from worlds with environments like that... It's what makes the BHG's job so easy, knowing so many people are willing to tackle down these monsters because to them it's what comes natural.]

[And then the next part said more lightly, dispelling the tension that was surrounding their conversation with some optimism.] ...But that's what we're here to figure out, right? The guild's true colors are becoming obvious!

[ It wasn't that long ago that he'd sat and discussed with another about their world, about the threat connected to their world from another...dimension. So many people not knowing how to deal with it, not understanding it, truths being covered up or living with only a single family.

He knew he couldn't quite understand the worlds that these people came from, though the subject here and now didn't feel entirely the same as what Oswald had told him. ]

...Yeah, you're right. [ Nevertheless, going on about it now would be pointless. He wanted to look forward too, to the issue now. ] What about the police here? Can they do anything? If there's people mistreating creatures right under their noses, can't they put a stop to it?

If you mean the Enforcers... Well, we can't do something without definitive proof. [Notice he says "we".] So that's why I'm here! [He's not even being suble about it now.]
